Tonights concert will feature great works by two of the most important composers in American history  Charles Ives and jazz great Duke Ellington  as well as a world premiere by internationally acclaimed pianist, composer and educator Rebeca Mauleón.<BR> <BR> Widely regarded as a true American masterpiece, Ives Second Symphony artfully weaves material from popular folk tunes such as <I>Columbia the Gem of the Ocean </I>and <I>Camptown Races</I> into an original work that still has much in common with the older European style. Duke Ellingtons <I>Harlem</I>, from its sultry beginning to its flashy big-band middle and beyond, gave Ellington the opportunity to make some statements on the subject of Harlem, the music and the people.
